Money is a real stress for most people. Many live under the heavy burden of debt and financial stress, enslaved, stressed, hopeless, and bound. What’s sad is that we often don’t let God into the picture and invite Him to help us—after all, He wants to be involved in every area of your life. What’s more? The Bible is actually full of wisdom on how we can manage our money well, be generous, and build toward financial freedom.

On this page, you will find practical steps to managing your money God’s way: from putting Him first and dreaming big to budgeting, breaking free from the claws of debt, and wisdom from God’s Word.

How to Manage Your Money God’s Way

Below is a step-by-step plan to manage your money God’s way. Happy reading!

  1. Put God First
  2. Have a Budget
  3. Get out of Debt
  4. Save Before You Spend
  5. Spend Wisely

Our second book, The 5 Jars, incorporates everything on this page into one easy-to-apply read. You can get it here.

Put God First

When you put God first, He takes care of the rest.

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9-10)

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce  wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

1. You Need to Have a Dream

Before you can turn your finances around, you need a vision of where you want to go.

2. You Need to Put God First

Invite God into the picture: Invite Him to be your CEO, put Him first with your money, and live The Blessed Life.

3. You Need Money Wisdom

God’s Word is filled with wisdom on how we can make the right choices, be successful with what we have been entrusted with, and become more productive.

4. You Need to Trust God Through the Storms

It is easy to be despondent when you look at all the chaos around us. Know this: If Jesus is in your boat, you’ll be okay.

Have a Budget

Let’s chat about budgeting.

Quite simply, a budget is a way of keeping track of your income and expenses. Having a BUDGET is all about planning and managing your finances. As the saying goes, “Failing to plan is planning to fail”. Below is how to budget your money effectively.

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds.” (Proverbs 27:23)

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” (Luke 14:28)

  1. Create your budget
  2. Get your priorities right
  3. Make it a habit

Get out of Debt

Debt is a big problem most of us face. The problem: it doesn’t just steal your cash flow, it robs you of your joy and peace. It enslaves and causes pain, stress, and bondage. This section will help you get out and stay out of debt.

Owe nothing to anyone—except love.” (Romans 13:8)

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” (Proverbs 22:7)

Save Before You Spend

I always remember the quote by Jim Rohn, which says, “Poor people spend their money and save what’s left. Rich people save their money and spend what’s left.”

The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.” (Proverbs 21:20)

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” (Proverbs 6:6-11)

Whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.” (Proverbs 13:11)

Spend Wisely

Don’t let your money burn a hole in your pocket. Cut back on wasteful expenditure, spend less than you earn, and you will begin to build wealth.

The wise are cautious and avoid danger, fools plunge ahead.” (Proverbs 14:15)
