Life Tip: Only God Can Fill The Empty Void

Are you running on empty? Does it feel like there is something missing in your life? Maybe you have a spiritual void on the inside.

Many years ago, Billy Graham said that we all have within us a “God-shaped vacuum, a spiritual emptiness in our souls, that only God can fill.”

Are you empty? Dried out? Starving? Hungry? Thirsty?

David went through a few dry times in his life…

On one occasion David cried out, “As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God.” (Psalm 42:2)

On another occasion, David cried out to God in desperation, “O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1)

We often try to fill our lives with “stuff” that never brings lasting satisfaction. We all have a hunger and a thirst in our hearts, an empty place in our souls, that only God can fill. 

Billy Graham said, “The problem is that instead of turning to God and letting Him fill our souls, we turn to other things — pleasure, fame, money, sex, or drugs and alcohol. Some people even turn to false philosophies or religions, hoping these will lead them to the truth and fill the empty place in their lives. For a time, they may think they’ve found what they were looking for, but in the end, they’re just as empty as they ever were. Tragically, some will even discover that they’ve almost destroyed their lives.”

Jesus told us, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35) 

And again, Jesus told us, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” (John 7:37-38)

Only God can satisfy our inner hunger and thirst. Only God can transform your life and fill the emptiness. Don’t be led astray. 

Blaise Pascal said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.”

If you are broken, empty, confused, or wounded, turn to Jesus Christ. He wants to heal your life. He wants to forgive and cleanse you. He wants to reignite a passion in your heart. He can fill the void. 

I urge you to turn to Jesus Christ. On the cross, Jesus paid the full price for our sins so that we could be made right with God. He wants to fill your emptiness. He is the bread of life. He offers you the river of living water that will never run dry. Open your heart to Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. Make him the center of your life. Don’t try to fill your life with anything less than the living God.

Dear Lord Jesus, I am empty. I need you. I surrender my life to you. Lord, please forgive me and cleanse me. Please fill me. Today I put my faith in you. Lord Jesus, I believe that You died for my sins and rose from the dead. Thank you for the rivers of living water that you are pouring into me. I know that I will never be the same again. Today I thank you that you are my Lord and Savior. I am your child. Thank you for new life, eternal life, and abundant life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
