Caterpillars and Butterflies

Did you know that a caterpillar only lives for around 10 days?

During this period, it lives the most selfish life possible. All it does is eat, eat, and eat! It does not care about anything or anyone, just juicy green leaves.

After living this self-absorbed life, the ugly caterpillar spins a cocoon and seems to die to its old self.

Its life seemed to have no purpose. The caterpillar’s life seems to be a waste of time, utterly meaningless.

But a short while later, it emerges as a beautiful butterfly. It has been completely transformed.

Beautiful.

Free.

It can fly.

It has a new life.

A new purpose.

The ugly caterpillar has been transformed into a beautiful butterfly.

No longer does it just go around living its selfish life, it now goes around with purpose. A new lease on life, making a positive difference wherever the wind takes it.

The butterfly goes from flower to flower, pollinating the flowers and thereby bringing beauty and new life.

The picture of the ugly selfish caterpillar being transformed into a beautiful butterfly is a picture of what God wants to do in your life.

God Can Transform Your Life

God can even transform your eternal destiny.

The word transformation is a powerful word. It means “to create a marked change in form, nature, or appearance.”

No matter where you find yourself today, God can do a metamorphosis in your life.

You may have lived an ugly life up until now, selfishly once concerned about yourself.

If so, you can possibly relate to the caterpillar. The good news is that God can transform your life. He can bring you new life, starting today and going right on into eternity.

He can take the sin – the bad and the ugliness, and transform your life, giving you purpose, a new dream, new life for now and going into eternity.

Sin leads to death and bondage. It cuts us off from God’s best.

It can wreck your life, but God can transform you!

Jesus told us, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

You can be born again.

Do You Realize What God Did For You?

There is more to life than just your temporary life on earth. God made you to live forever.

Life on earth is temporary. Eternity is permanent. Do you know where you will spend your eternity?

We are told, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Jesus came to pay the price for our sins so that we can be transformed.

Jesus came to make a way for you and me to come into a relationship with Him, a walk with God that can start today and goes right on into eternity.

We are told, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:17)

Jesus came, not to condemn you or put you into bondage.

No.

He came to set you free.

He came to save your life.

The scriptures confirm this…

“He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.” (2 Corinthians 5:15)

Do you realize what Jesus did for you on that cross?

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Jesus came to transform your life – He came to make you a new creation!

Metamorphosis

Today you can start afresh.

Give your life to God – Allow him to do a metamorphosis in your life.

It does not matter how you have blown it. It is not too late. You can begin again.

God can turn your life around.

Surrender to him.

Let him start a new work in you.

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6)

Don’t Follow The Crowd Blindly!

I heard a story about an experiment done with caterpillars…

Apparently, a group of scientists took a round clay pot that had a luscious green plant in the middle. They then took caterpillars and placed them on the rim, head to toe, and waited to see what the caterpillars would do.

Although there was this juicy, luscious green plant within easy reach, the caterpillars just walked round and round along the rim, following the caterpillar in front of it.

Each caterpillar just needed to look up and see the succulent plant in the center.

But each caterpillar just followed the crowd, and tragically continued to follow the caterpillar in front of them.

Not one of the caterpillars broke away. They just followed each other and eventually died from exhaustion and starvation.

Maybe you feel like you are just moving in circles without any meaning or purpose.

You may be saying, “What’s the point and meaning of my life?”

Maybe you have just followed the crowd.

Maybe you have lived life like a caterpillar –  just for yourself.

Today I have good news for you:

God can transform your life.

He can change your destiny.

He can change your life.

How Is Your Life Going?

Today, consider your life. Look to the Life-Giver, look to Jesus. He can set you free and change your life.

God can do a metamorphosis in your life. He can renew your life.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” (Psalms 139:23-24)

God Knows What Is Up!

God knows you through and through.

He knows your fears, concerns, and shortfalls, yet he still loves you.

He has a plan for you.

He made you.

He knows your every thought, He knows every struggle you’ve endured.

Just like God had a plan and purpose for the ugly caterpillar, he has a plan and purpose for your life.

He has a destiny for you to fulfill.

And, just like God can transform the lowly caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly, He can transform your life and your eternity.

Maybe your heart has become hard. He can change your heart.

God told his people, “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (Ezekiel 36:26)

He wants to transform you from the inside out.

He wants to fill you.

He wants to give you a new heart.

Stop living just for the here and now.

Stop just following the same old worldly pattern.

Stop just following the crowd.

You can break the destructive cycle!

“I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.  (Romans 12:1)

Surrender

Surrender your life to God.

Give him your failure, your sin, your hurts, and your brokenness.

Jesus came to bring good news.

He came to bring forgiveness.

He came to set captives free.

He came to release the oppressed.

He came to bind up the broken-hearted.

He came to transform lives.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)

Is Your Life In Need of a Metamorphosis?

Only God can do the transformation in you.

“What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation. May God’s peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle; they are the new people of God.” (Galatians 6:15-16)
