The Forgiveness of God
Have you sinned? Have you messed up? Today, God offers you His forgiveness. He cleanses. He sets free. He restores.
Sometimes, we sin, and we just blow it.
When we do, we are often left feeling dirty, broken, guilty, and shattered.
At moments like this, the enemy also comes and adds further condemnation, telling you that you are a weak failure—good for nothing!
He will not just accuse you. He will also tell you that you have been too bad, that there is no hope for you, and that you have blown it. He will add that God wants nothing to do with you and that you have messed up too badly.
Sin can seriously mess up your life. It leads to hurt, pain, and torment.
In fact, sin also leads to spiritual death.
We are told in scripture that the price of sin leads to death, but thankfully, God didn’t stop there…
Yes, He hates sin.
He is holy and can’t mix with sin, yet He did something about sin so that we could be set free and find forgiveness.
We are told, “For the wages of sin is death, BUT the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
You have a free gift from God.
You cannot earn it, and you don’t deserve it, but Jesus paid the price for sin so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life.
We have all sinned. We fall short of God’s holy standard. We have all messed up.
We are told that “No one is righteous, not even one. All have turned away from God.” (Romans 3:10-12)
It goes on and says, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23)
The good news is that although we have missed the mark, we are told, “Yet God, in his gracious kindness, freely makes us right in his sight.” (Romans 3:24-25)
I am so grateful to God for His undeserved kindness.
How has God done this?
This scripture tells us that God “did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” (Romans 3:24-25)
Jesus paid the full price for sin. If you have messed up, surrender your life to Jesus. Give Him your life. Repent of your sin. Ask Him to forgive you. He wants to cleanse you and set you free.
“For God so loved the world (THAT IS YOU) that he gave his one and only Son (JESUS), that whoever believes in him (PUTS FAITH IN HIM) shall not perish (CONDEMNED TO HELL AND DESTRUCTION) but have eternal life (ABUNDANT LIFE IN HEAVEN WHERE YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY WITH GOD).” (John 3:16)
This scripture continues, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17)
While the enemy wants you to feel like there is no hope in your sin, the Good News is that God has made a way out and offers abundant grace and complete forgiveness.
If you are struggling with sin, I want to share a few scriptures that will help you come clean and move forward without guilt or condemnation. Today, you can know the forgiveness of God.
Five Steps to Forgiveness and Freedom:
1.) Admit Your Sin:
“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.” (1 John 1:8)
God sees all. Be honest with Him.
2.) Confess Your Sins to God:
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (1 John 1:8-9)
Notice that God is “faithful” to forgive your sin.
If God promised to do it, He will.
God is also “just” to forgive sin.
He has the right to forgive you.
Why?
Because Jesus already paid the price for your sin.
This scripture is so powerful and liberating.
You can bring your sins to God and tell Him your struggles and where you messed up.
When you “confess” your sin to God, you are acknowledging your sin to Him. God’s Word tells us that he is “faithful” and “just” to “forgive” us and “cleanse” from all sin and wickedness.
God loves you so much that He is willing and able to forgive you and cleanse you from all wrongdoing.
3.) Look to God for Forgiveness. He is so Kind and Loving:
“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalms 103:2-5)
See God’s heart: God forgives. He heals. He redeems. He renews. He restores.
In fact, this scripture goes on and tells us that “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalms 103:8)
4.) God Doesn’t Just Cover Your Sin. He Can Remove It:
God “does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalms 103:10-12)
Through the blood of Jesus, God doesn’t just cover the stains of sin.
He obliterates sin. He cleanses it. He wipes it out. He removes it.
The blood of Jesus is a stain remover.
God can remove your sin as far as the East is from the West.
God promises us that when we turn from our sins and repent, He will forgive us and even forget about our past sins, setting us completely free.
God says, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12)
5.) God Makes All Things New: He Cleanses. He Sets Free. He Restores.
God offers complete forgiveness. You can turn to God, confess your sin, and He will forgive you and set you free. Then, you can start afresh.
We are told that “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-18)
God came to reconcile you to Himself. He came to restore your life and your relationship with Him.
The forgiveness of God is available to you: No matter what you have done or how far you have fallen, you can know God’s forgiveness and peace. Jesus paid it all so you can go free and be restored.
