Financial Freedom: Create a Vision Board

photo of assorted letter board quote hanged on wall

Do you have a goal for the year ahead? What are your dreams for the future?

It is easy to drift through life without a plan or a vision, but I strongly encourage you to dare to dream, aim high, and set up a strategy to go after your dreams.

You may be disillusioned, especially if you face a series of setbacks. But I want to encourage you to set goals and attempt great things.

Today, I want to encourage you to document your dreams. One way to do this is to create a vision board of your goals.

“Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.” (Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV)

My son Joshua set several huge goals last year. To ensure that his dreams were clear, he created a vision board. His vision board was a poster he made that gave him a clear view of his vision and strategy to achieve his goals. He placed the poster of his vision on the wall above his desk. Every time he sat down at his desk, his vision for the year ahead was in front of him. His vision board helped him to stay focused on his goals. Josh has a habit of getting up early and sitting at his desk to read his Bible and spend time with God. He would commit his dreams and plans to God every time he did. Regularly, he would monitor his progress. By the time he got to September, he had accomplished most of the goals on his vision board.

I encourage you to create your vision board for the year ahead. Also include your long-term goals, whether it be settling your mortgage bond, building up enough savings to make that international trip of a lifetime, or building up your wealth portfolio to retire early. Also, include your business or study goals and your God goals.

Josh’s vision board consisted of pictures, numbers, and specific objectives he wanted to achieve. It kept him focused. At times, he had to adapt his plan to reach his goal, but in the end, he accomplished all his goals in less time than expected. Something unique happens when you write down your goals or document your dreams and plans on a vision board, and something powerful happens when you commit your vision, goals, dreams, and plans to God.

To Create a Vision Board, Follow a Few Simple Steps…

  1. You need a vision.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV)

Without a vision for your future, you will go through the motions and never accomplish anything significant.

  1. Create a vision board.

“Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.” (Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV)

Write down your vision. Document it.

If you need advice, make sure you get it. Maybe you need to sit down with your banker or financial planner to run the numbers and set up a realistic plan to ensure you can make it easy to follow through on.

Your vision board is…

  • A collage: A series of pictures of what your dreams and goals are.
  • A strategy: A simple plan on how you can achieve it.
  • A series of numbers: What do you want to achieve?
  • A time plan: A set of dates by which time you want to reach your goals.

I suggest you create a few small, easy-to-follow steps that you can often do that will result in you working towards turning your dreams into reality.

The vision board needs to be centered around your goals and dreams. You can include a simple collection of…

  • Pictures,
  • Numbers,
  • Words, and
  • Dates
  1. Ask God to bless your plans.

Align your goals and dreams with God’s plan for your life. Make sure that your goals are not in conflict with God’s purposes.

God wants to walk the journey with you. He is interested in you and your plans. Ask him to help you.

“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” (Proverbs 16:3 NLT)

What a powerful promise! When we commit our plans to God, he can bring them to pass. Give your plans to God. Follow his lead.

With God, all things are possible. He can cause all things to work out for the good, bring your dreams to pass, and open the right doors. He wants to see you succeed and be fruitful.

  1. Review your goals at set internals.

Look at your vision board often.

Keep your vision board in a prominent place where you will see it often. It will help you clarify and prioritize your goals and stay focused.

When you look at your vision board, it will help you stay on track to achieve your objectives and turn your dreams into reality.

By monitoring your goals from time to time, you will remain motivated to follow through.

By reviewing your vision board, you can assess what is working and what is not working. Then, you can adapt your strategy to ensure you follow it until your dreams come to fruition.

“Not that I have already obtained all this or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14)
