A smart way to set your goals
I know that the last year has been tough. You may be finding it difficult to keep a positive outlook, but no matter how bad things are, I want to encourage you to be optimistic, to keep your head up and to stay strong.
Despite the crazy times in which we live, I pray that your life will be fruitful and full of God’s abundant favor.
You may be facing a serious financial problem. Maybe debts are high. Maybe you have lost your vision for the future. Maybe you have stopped dreaming.
I believe it is time to rebuild. It is time to smile and to look up! You can bounce back from your setbacks.
Today I want to share a simple strategy with you to help you set up a plan to deal with your financial problems, and also to set some new goals for a brighter tomorrow.
PRACTICAL WEALTH MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLE:
If you are facing a financial problem or if you are looking to set some goals for the future, you can consider using the SMART GOAL SETTING METHOD.
Whether your goal is to manage your money better, to get out of debt, or to set yourself up for a successful future, the SMART goal setting method is an effective strategy to plan and set up action-steps to help you move from where you are to where you want to be.
SMART GOAL SETTING METHOD.
S – Specific:
Make sure that your financial goals are specific. You need to have a clear picture of what you want to achieve.
So, make your plans specific.
M – Measurable:
You will probably give up on your financial goal if you do not have a clear plan on how to measure your progress. Without a plan, you will be left frustrated.
If you make your goal measurable, you will stay motivated. One way to do this is to break your big goal down into smaller, more achievable goals.
So, make your goal measurable.
A – Achievable
It is pointless to set a goal that is not achievable. This will just leave you feeling defeated. Why not work your plan into your budget and automate it?
You can make your goal achievable.
R – Realistic
Don’t set impossible goals, rather be realistic and work towards achieving them.
T- Time
It is important to work on a clear time frame. An open-ended goal can leave you just drifting aimlessly. Set up a time frame. It will help you to stay motivated and on track with your goal. Ask yourself, “By when do you want to achieve your goal?”
Set up a fixed time plan by when you want to reach your dream.
BE SMART! Dare to dream and set goals.
Be SPECIFIC, make your goals MEASURABLE, make sure your goals are ACHIEVABLE and REALISTIC, and set up a TIME frame. This is a SMART way to go after your goals.
INTERESTING CONCEPT:
“HOW DO YOU EAT AN ELEPHANT?” – “ONE BITE AT A TIME!”
Sometimes we face daunting problems or goals that just seem to big. When you do, you need to look at THE ELEPHANT (THE BIG PICTURE). What is the problem or the goal?
Then you need to break it down into BITE SIZE CHUNKS, into smaller goals or steps that will help you get from where you are, to where you want to be, one bite at a time.
POWER QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
“If you want something you have never had, you’ll need to do something you’ve never done!” (Dave Ramsey)
WHAT DOES GOD HAVE TO SAY:
Deuteronomy 8:11-18 …” But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you the power to be successful” or as the NIV says … “He is the one who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
Don’t forget God. Don’t trust in money. Trust in God.
Philippians 4:6-8 … “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
So don’t worry about anything! Rather pray about everything and leave it in God’s hands. He has got it!

LET’S PRAY:
Heavenly Father, you know exactly what is going on in my life. Please can you give me the insight to make wise choices and help me to follow through. I put my life in your hands, along with my concerns for tomorrow and my dreams for the future. Help me to live a life that honors you in all that I do. Please lead me along the best pathway for my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
CONCLUSION:
Yes, you need to invest in your future. But, above all, hold onto God.
Have a great week. God bless you.
