God can make your bitter waters sweet!
God wants the best for you.
No matter how bitter or messed up your life may be, God can make your bitter waters sweet again.
Last week in our message: Are you caught between a rock and a hard place? God can deliver you! we saw how God’s people turned away from him.
We saw how they ended up in slavery in Egypt because of their rebellion. They were treated harshly. God’s people were enslaved in bondage and oppression. In their desperation they cried out to God.
God saw their pain. God heard their desperate cries for help, and he was moved.
From being enslaved and oppressed, God mightily delivered his people.
God led his people, more than 2 million, through the Red Sea on dry ground. He then swept the enemy away.
God opened the Red Sea. He led his people out of bondage.
He set them free and they put their trust in God.

A lot can happen in three days…
Fast track 3 days after this celebration…
God’s plan was to lead his people through the wilderness into the Promised Land.
Exodus 15:22-24 tells us, “Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went into the Wilderness of Shur; they went three days (about thirty-three miles) in the wilderness and found no water. Then they came to Marah, but they could not drink its waters because they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah (bitter). The people [grew discontented and] grumbled at Moses, saying, “What are we going to drink?”
Can you imagine this? 3 days later, after they had celebrated how God had miraculously delivered them from their oppressors, what were God’s people doing?
Instead of being grateful to God for delivering them they were moaning and complaining.
And, instead of asking God to provide some fresh water for them, they were grumbling and complaining. After all, if God can part the waters of the sea, then surely he can provide water. Surely if he cared so deeply to deliver his people, then surely he would provide for them.
When faced with a small inconvenience, they were unhappy and felt they had a right to complain at God.
Are you like this? I am embarrassed to say I am like this sometimes.
But let us look at this…
God’s people were thirsty. They had come to Marah, but the water was bitter.
Are you bitter?
Has life dealt you a harsh hand?
Have you made mistakes that have left you with a bad taste in your mouth?
Have you faced challenges that have left you bitter?
Are you thirsty?
Then cry out to God.
God wants you to bother Him with your problems.
What happened to God’s people in Egypt when they cried out to Him?
God answered and mightily delivered them!
In Exodus 15:25 it tells us that Moses, “cried to the LORD [for help], and the LORD showed him a tree, [a branch of] which he threw into the waters, and the waters became sweet.”
God can make your bitter waters sweet!
No matter how bitter your life is, God can turn it around.
In Exodus 15:25-26 it tells us that, “There the LORD made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, saying, “If you will diligently listen and pay attention to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and listen to His commandments, and keep [foremost in your thoughts and actively obey] all His precepts and statutes, then I will not put on you any of the diseases which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you.”
God is able to bring healing to your life. He can turn your bitter waters into sweet refreshing springs of living water.
What bitter water is in your life?
Is it bitterness in your heart from unforgiveness?
Have you taken a bad knock that’s left your life bitter?
Have you been undeservedly oppressed?
Have your broken dreams left you bitter?
God instructed Moses to throw a branch from a tree into the bitter waters. This turned the bitter water sweet. It made the bad water good.
Do you feel oppressed? We recently released a post on 8 STEPS TO FIND VICTORY WHEN UNDER ATTACK.
There is a branch that was broken off another tree that can still make your bitter water sweet.
Do you know what Jesus did for you on the cross? He made a way to make your bitter life sweet.
Through the cross, God can turn your bitter waters sweet.
“Christ purchased our freedom and redeemed us from the curse of the Law and its condemnation by becoming a curse for us-for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS [crucified] ON A TREE (cross)” (Galatians 3:13 AMP)
Galatians 3:13-14 tells us, “But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.”
Just like Moses threw the branch into the water to make the bitter waters sweet, so Jesus died on the branch of a tree (on the cross) to turn your bitter life sweet.
God provided water for his people in the desert, and he can provide for you. He turned their bitter waters into sweet water and He can also make your bitter waters sweet!
Do you knows Jesus as your Savior?
He paid the full price on the cross, for your bitter life, so that your life can be made sweet. He made a way so that you and I can be set free from the curse and made whole. He made a way for you and I to have a close relationship with God.

Look what happened after this event…
Exodus 15:27 tells us, “Then the children of Israel came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters.”
God can lead you to pools of refreshing water
“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”
He can make your bitter water sweet!
My friend, nothing is too difficult for God.
God can make rivers flow in your desert and He can make your bitter waters sweet!
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)
Cry out to God.
