Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?
Many are asking if it is okay for Christians to celebrate Halloween.
Some say it is a complex issue.
From my perspective, it is a simple and big NO.
God’s word implores us to “live as children of the light.” (Ephesians 5:8)
On the flip side, Halloween is shrouded in darkness: from haunted houses, to dressing up like monsters and demons, to horror movies, and many practices that are rooted in the occult and traditions that brought death, destruction, and curses on people.
Light and Darkness Do Not Mix
God’s word is clear, “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy?” (1 Corinthians 10:21-22)
Why?
Would a person who is anti-Christ celebrate Christmas or Easter?
No, they would not celebrate a holiday that opposed their beliefs.
In the same way, if you are a Christian, how can you even consider celebrating something that represents one of the two most important holidays on the Satanic calendar? Just do some research. Look at the origins and traditions attached to Halloween.

According to Wikipedia, “In The Satanic Bible, LaVey writes that “after one’s own birthday, the two major Satanic holidays are Walpurgisnacht and Halloween.” Other holidays celebrated by members include the two solstices, the two equinoxes, and Yule.”
Don’t Compromise
Many years ago, I spoke at an outreach campaign held in Grassy Park, Cape Town. I shared a message about how God doesn’t want His children to compromise but to be fully sold out for Him.
It wasn’t so much the message I shared that day, but more what happened afterwards that has always shaped my view on celebrating Halloween. I will get into this shortly, but first I would like to give you an overview of what I shared that day.
A MESSAGE TO THE LUKEWARM (My message to the crowd)
I shared from Revelation 3, in which Jesus addressed the church in Laodicea and implored His people to consider their ways and return to Him from their lukewarmness.
Jesus says, “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (Revelation 3:15-16)
The Laodicean church thought it was doing well. The people in the church were wealthy, healthy, successful, and living the good life. They had a form of godliness, but their spiritual walk was compromised.
In fact, they had become lukewarm, sitting on the fence, half in, half out, with a lackluster commitment to God. They thought everything was okay, but God gave them a wake-up call.
Jesus said to them, “You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.” (Revelation 3:17)
All was not what it seemed. Although they were rich in worldly terms and thought they had it all together, they had let go of God. Their relationship with God was flaky at best – hanging by a thread. They were spiritually bankrupt and blind.
They didn’t even see the true spiritual condition of their heart. They thought everything was going okay and didn’t realize their lives were on a collision course with a holy God.
Jesus hates it when we are compromised. He was sick of their lukewarmness and threatened to spit them out if they did not change.
Jesus said, “So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also, buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.” (Revelation 3:17-19)
Out of a deep love for His wayward people, Jesus warned them to let go of their half-hearted Christianity and get their lives back on track with God.
Jesus wanted them to purify their hearts and lives, to exchange their weak, compromised lives for a life fully committed to God.
He wanted His people to seek first the Kingdom of God and live right. He implored them to get rid of all evil and come into the light. He called His people to come clean, reassess their lives, clear out the compromises, and get their hearts and minds back on God.
Jesus also implied that they needed white clothes of purity and eye ointment to remove their spiritual blindness. He wanted His people to stop conforming to the pattern of the world, to remove their darkened lenses, and to see life through God’s perspective. They needed to let go of their compromised lenses and see things through God’s lenses.
Jesus concluded, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (Revelation 3:20-22)
God is knocking on the door of your heart.
Have you let go of God?
Have you become spiritually blind?
Have you been deceived?
Have you become lukewarm?
Are you living in compromise?
Have you become spiritually dry?
Have you lost your passion for God?
If you sense that God is knocking, open the door of your heart. Allow Jesus in.
Repent of your compromise. Confess your sins. Return to Jesus.
Jesus died on the cross to save you. He shed His blood to atone for sin and every vile curse of hell. He paid the full price so that you could find forgiveness and come back into an intimate and vibrant relationship with Him. He wants to cleanse you, heal your vision, restore your life, and revive your heart.
My friend, please consider your ways. If you have let go of God or become lukewarm, please return to Him while He is still knocking before it is too late.
Return to God. He wants to revive your heart and take you deeper into a close walk with Him.

WHY I SHARED THIS MESSAGE WITH YOU
I wanted to share this message with you for two reasons:
On one hand, I know that many have lost their way and wandered from God. Many have grown cold and complacent, and God is calling His children to return to Him.
When I shared this message several years back, many responded and returned to Jesus. God touched many and reignited a new fire in many hearts, and I pray that He will do the same today.
So, let me get to the reason I wanted to share this message with you. Then, allow me to briefly unpack what happened after I shared it and how it always cautions me ahead of Halloween.
After I finished sharing this message, we had an extended time of prayer and worship, during which time God poured out His Spirit. His presence was tangible, and God moved in a very powerful way. Many who were broken and bound came forward for prayer, and God brought healing, and many were radically set free.
DON’T DABBLE WITH DEMONS IN THE DARK (What happened after)
During this time, a lady came up for prayer. As we began praying for her, she started manifesting a demonic spirit. Before my eyes, her face began to change. Her eyes changed. It felt like someone else was looking at me through her eyes. Her face started contorting. It looked like a scene out of an evil horror movie when someone is possessed. Another strange voice came out of this lady’s mouth that was not hers. It was a manly voice, aggressive, and shouted profanities. It was eerie, to say the least. This lady was convulsing. We could only look to Jesus and pray for her, trusting Jesus to set her free. And He did! That day, in the mighty name of Jesus, this broken lady was supernaturally delivered. The evil spirit that had tormented her for years had to leave under the authority of Jesus and be cast out, and this lady, who for years had been bound by demons, was set entirely free.
Every Halloween, I am reminded of the events that transpired that day. When I see people dressing up and having “innocent fun,” letting their children dress up like demons and trick-or-treating, I am left disturbed.
Halloween is not innocent fun. It is a celebration of darkness. I am sure that anyone in that meeting, along with this lady who was set free, will never participate in any Halloween festivities. I promise you that they will never let their children dress up like monsters and dabble with demons.
I can tell you countless stories of people I have met who once were bound by forces of darkness.
One young man got entangled in the occult. He shared with me that when he first entertained this spiritual realm, he had a supernatural encounter with evil that left him with certain powers of manipulation and a feeling of tremendous power. But it was short-lived, and once he was tied up in this, he was left feeling empty, bound, and unable to escape. His life became a nightmare, enslaved to evil forces. He felt bound and stuck and became paranoid, anxious, and depressed. No drugs could stabilize him. It was only when he surrendered his all to Jesus that he was released from his prison and set free. Only Jesus was able to set this captive free. Today, he is on fire for God and walks in the light of Jesus. If I interviewed him today, he would also strongly warn you to stay away from dabbling with forces of darkness. He would tell you to watch out and would strongly discourage any child from getting involved in any Halloween practice.
Today, I ask you to use your discernment. Be careful. Jesus told us that the “enemy comes to kill, steal to destroy.” The good news is that Jesus saves. He came to “bring life and life more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Seriously, be careful. Do not open doorways to darkness that can bind you or your children to the forces of darkness.
I share this not to alarm you but to implore you to be careful.
Don’t mix with evil and darkness.
We are told, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:11-16)
I appeal to you to watch out for the sinister and deceptive moves of the enemy. Give the devil your finger; he won’t just try to take your arm; he will do all he can to corrupt your heart, blind you, and take hold of your soul.
Be wise.
Wake up.
Be aware.
Live in the light.
Be careful how you live.
We are living in evil times.
Don’t open your life to darkness.
Be careful in what you participate in.
Invite Jesus to be your Lord and Savior.
Hold tight to Jesus. He is the light of the world.
Make Jesus the center. Jesus wants to shine in you.
Jesus has all power and authority. He heals and delivers.
Jesus gives peace and sets captives free. He is our protector.
The Armor of God (Ephesians 6:1-18)
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” (Ephesians 6:10-18)
