The Battle Belongs To Our God

Are you facing a battle that you feel you cannot win? Does it seem like there is no way out of your mess? Are you scared and disillusioned? Maybe you are holding on, but the outlook is bleak, and defeat looks inevitable.

At times like this it is easy to want to give up and quit. It is easy to just surrender to the giants. But I want to encourage you to look to JESUS, even if the outcome looks impossible.

Jesus is alive. Nothing is impossible for him. He can fix what is broken. When you have come to the end of what you can do in your own strength, this is the time to hand the reigns to Him, knowing that he is the way-maker and the miracle-worker.

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD

God can do all things. He is strong and mighty. He is the creator. He flung the stars into space, and he made you.

“Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14)

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” (Jeremiah 32:17)

If God is with you, you will be ok. He will see you through. He has an eternal plan for your life. 

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

You may be ready to give in. You may be wanting to throw in the towel. Surrender your battle to God. 

Jesus said, “Anything is possible if a person believes.” (Mark 9:23)

All things are possible, for those who believe. Not to those who doubt, but to those who believe. Put your hope in God. Put your confidence in God. Let faith arise. Only believe!

It may be impossible in the natural, but ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD!

Referring to a person who had lost his way Jesus said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.” (Mark 10:27)

Keep your eyes on Jesus, even in the middle of your battle.

WHEN YOU ARE FACING AN IMPOSSIBLE BATTLE, LOOK TO GOD

In 2 Chronicles 20, it tells the story of Judah and King Jehoshaphat. The nation of Judah was under attack. Three powerful enemy nations declared war on Judah and a vast army were marching out against them. They were too powerful. Judah were not expecting this attack. They were in a hopeless situation.

Maybe you feel like this…

Are you under attack?

You may be facing a health concern. Maybe your finances are in a mess. Your family may be falling apart, your world may look like it is about to be shattered. You may not see any way out. I do not know what battle you are facing, but God knows exactly what is happening. You may be completely overwhelmed, but hold on!

Judah were under siege. They were about to be wiped out. They were in dire straits. 

2 Chronicles 20:3 tells us that, “Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news.”

It is natural to be scared when we face danger. But take a look at what King Jehoshaphat did.

Although Jehoshaphat was terrified, he did not panic. 

2 Chronicles 20:3 tells us that Jehoshaphat “resolved to inquire of the Lord”.

Yes, The King was alarmed but he sought God, he looked to God for guidance. 

When you face a crisis what do you do?

In your current situation, no matter the battle you face, I want to implore you to seek God! Don’t get overwhelmed by your crisis. Seek God.

SEEK GOD AND ASK HIM TO INTERVENE

The King gave orders for everyone in Judah to SEEK GOD. He called on the nation to fast and pray. 

2 Chronicles 20:4 tells us, “So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help.”

King Jehoshaphat began to pray to God to deliver his nation. 

Jehoshaphat prayed, “O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!” (2 Chronicles 20:6)

He knew he was powerless, but he also knew that God was ALL POWERFUL.

Jehoshaphat continued, “Whenever we are faced with any calamity such as war, plague, or famine, we can come to stand in your presence before this Temple where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.” (2 Chronicles 20:6)

Today you can cry out to God to save you. He hears our desperate cries for help. When you cry out to God in faith, he is moved. God will come through for you! In the middle of your crisis, seek God. Cry out to God.

King Jehoshaphat knew he was powerless. He knew Judah could not do anything, but he also knew that God was ALL POWERFUL, and that God could make a way. 

King Jehoshaphat continued, “O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.” (2 Chronicles 20:12)

LOOK TO GOD IN YOUR TIME OF TROUBLE

The whole nation cried out to God. The men, the woman, even the children, stood before the Lord. And, as they waited on God, the Spirit of the Lord came upon a man named of Jahaziel. 

Jahaziel addressed the nation, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”(2 Chronicles 20:15)

Do not be paralyzed by fear. Do not be discouraged. The battle is not yours.  The battle belongs to the Lord!

The man of God continued, “Tomorrow, you will march out against the enemy. But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!” (2 Chronicles 20:16-17)

Today God is telling you, do not be afraid. Don’t fear. Surrender your burdens to God. Call on him in your time of distress. 

God gave King Jehoshaphat and the nation of Judah a direct word, that he would fight the impossible battle on their behalf. All they needed to do was trust God. 

God told Judah that they were to march out against the enemy. He also told them that they would not need to fight. All they needed to do was take their positions, stand firm, and confront their fearful situation. And watch, for God was going to fight the battle on their behalf. 

STAND IN FAITH

Immediately after receiving this word, we are told, “Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the Lord.” (2 Chronicles 20:16-17)

What faith! God had only given them his word. They still had to face their battle. They still needed to march out against an army that was way too powerful for them. But in faith they began to praise God and worship God, in advance for the battle he was going to win on their behalf.

Early the next morning the army of Judah went out to the battlefield just as God had told them to do.

On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.” (2 Chronicles 20:20)

POWERFUL THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU WORSHIP GOD

Do you know who King Jehoshaphat sent out first?

Not the army. Not the soldiers. He sent the singers out first. They marched towards the battleground, lifting their voices in praise and worship to their God.

 This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!” (2 Chronicles 20:21)

Something strange and powerful happened as Judah praised and worshipped God.

The moment they began to worship, God caused confusion in the enemy ranks. The three enemy nations began to fight each other. 

2 Chronicles 20:22-23 tells us, “At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other.”

By the time Judah arrived at the battle front, the enemy had wiped themselves out. 

2 Chronicles 20:24 tells us that when Judah arrived at the battlefield, “all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.”

BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE

God had fought the impossible battle on His people’s behalf, just as He had promised. God calmed the storm. He averted the crisis. THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD. God won the battle. Judah did not have to fight. 

2 Chronicles 20:26 tells us that, “King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables—more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all!”

Not only did God deliver his people from a deadly situation. He even blessed his people.

GIVE GOD THE PRAISE

Look how this event ended…

Judah then gathered in the Valley. They called it “the Valley of Blessing” because the people praised and thanked the Lord there. (2 Chronicles 20:26)

They then “returned to Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat leading them, overjoyed that the Lord had given them victory over their enemies. They marched into Jerusalem to the music of harps, lyres, and trumpets, and they proceeded to the Temple of the Lord.” (2 Chronicles 20:27-28)

When God gives you the victory, don’t forget to give him due honor and praise. 

Not only did God fight the battle for his people and bless them, but when “all the surrounding kingdoms heard that the Lord himself had fought against their enemies, the fear of God came over them and King Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.” (2 Chronicles 20:29-30)

When God’s people turned to God for help, he heard their cry. He came to their rescue. He obliterated the enemy. He protected his people. He blessed them in abundance and even gave them favor and influence with the surrounding nations. No one wanted to mess with them, for God was with them.

Don’t fear your current battle. Call on God. Ask God to help you. He wants to be your Savior. You don’t have to fight your battle, for the battle belongs to the Lord.

Psalm 46:1-2 tells us that, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear.” 

INVITE JESUS TO BE YOUR SAVIOUR

Jesus paid the full price on the cross. He shed his blood for you. He conquered death and sin. He is risen. He is alive. He won the greatest battle ever fought so that we can be forgiven and go free. He has all power and authority. He is the way-maker. He is the miracle-worker. He is your Savior. He came to rescue you from sin and bondage. 

If your life is not right with God, put your hope and trust in Jesus. THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD.

Jesus loves you so much. He knows how many hairs you have on your head. He wants to be your Savior. You do not need to face the chaos of life alone. And you don’t need to face eternity alone. He wants a close walk with you.

1 Peter 5:7 tells us that can, “cast all your anxiety (all your cares and worries) on Him (on Jesus) because he cares for you.”

Is the load too much to bear? Are you lost? Have your drifted from God? 

No matter who you are, or what you have done, or where you find yourself, there is hope in God. THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD

If Jesus is your Lord and Savior you can rest in Him, knowing that He is your helper and that He will never abandon you. 

Isn’t it amazing to think that God wants a close walk with his children? 

If you are living a life devoid of God and filled with worry and anxiety, I want to encourage you to surrender your life and fears to God.

It is time to put your faith in our mighty God. Let hope arise in your weary heart. Be strong. Be courageous. Stand firm. Look to Jesus. Hold tight onto him. Worship him. FOR THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD.
