8 Steps To Find Victory When Under Attack

person in blue and white plaid long sleeve shirt holding white paper

You may be going through a tough time. You may feel cursed, under attack, or like your life is poisoned. I want to encourage you to look to Jesus. He is your place of safety. He loves you and cares about every detail of your life.

You can find victory over any attack of the enemy.

The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” (Nahum 1:7)

God cares for you. He is your shelter in the tough times.

For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” (Luke 19:10)

Jesus came to seek out those who are in trouble. He came to rescue those who are lost or in despair.

He came to set the captive free!

If you are under attack, the following 8 steps can help you to victory…

1. Watch Your Words… Speak Life!

It is so easy to be negative and to get into agreement with people about the problems. Rather get into agreement with God about a breakthrough. Speak life-giving words.

“It’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.” (Matthew 15:11)

Watch your language. Watch your words.

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45)

What is in your heart?

If you just speak negative words of defeat, destruction, and hopelessness, you will reap a harvest of destruction.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21 NKJV)

Your words are powerful. Use your words to inspire and build others up. Speak life-giving words of encouragement.

2. Don’t Get Negative and Complain. In Faith, Look to Jesus.

Maybe you are going through a tough time. It is easy to get impatient and complain when things go wrong. I want to encourage you to look to Jesus, no matter how bad things are.

In Numbers 21, it tells how Moses led God’s chosen people through the wilderness. The journey was difficult.

In verse 4, it tells us that “The people grew impatient with the long journey, and they began to speak against God and Moses. “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?” they complained. “There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!”

God’s people had been slaves in Egypt. They had been treated harshly. In their desperation, they had cried out to God to rescue them, and God had mightily delivered them. While in the wilderness, God had protected them and provided food supernaturally for them.

However, God’s people were ungrateful, and they complained about both God and their leader – Moses.

Look at what happened when the people grumbled and got all negative…

Numbers 21:6 says, “So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died.”

Negative words and complaining can poison your life.

In verse 6 it continues, “Then the people came to Moses and cried out, “We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take away the snakes.” So Moses prayed for the people.”

If you have messed up, you can confess your sins to God.

“… if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” (1 John 1:9)

God is faithful and able to forgive you and to cleanse you.

God then told Moses to do something strange.

In Numbers 21:8, “the Lord told him, “Make a replica of a poisonous snake and attach it to a pole. All who are bitten will live if they simply look at it!” So Moses made a snake out of bronze and attached it to a pole. Then anyone who was bitten by a snake could look at the bronze snake and be healed!

All who looked up to the snake on the pole were healed and delivered from the deadly poison.

3. Look to Jesus for Your Deliverance.

Jesus can redeem you and set you free from every curse!

Now see this…

When Jesus burst on the scene, he ushered in a new covenant. He came as the Savior to seek and save the lost. He came to set the captives free. He came to redeem us.

In John 3:14-15 it tells us that “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

Jesus was lifted up on the cross to pay the price for our sins. He paid the full price so that you and I could be delivered and set free.

If you have messed up or feel like your life is poisoned or under attack, I implore you to look to Jesus.

Look to Jesus in your time of trouble!

You may ask, “Why would God tell Moses to make a bronze snake and lift it up? Why would God tell his people that if they looked at the snake lifted up on a pole, they would be healed?”

After all, the snake was known as the cursed animal…

You may recall that when Adam and Eve were deceived by the devil in the Garden of Eden as recorded in Genesis 3, the devil had come in the form of a snake. According to Genesis, up until this moment, the snake was livestock, but after God cursed the snake it lost its legs.

Genesis 3:14-15 says, “Then the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live.”

And if the snake was the cursed animal, why would Jesus be compared to a snake? The book of Galatians sheds some light on this…

Galatians 3:13-14 tells us that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.”

Jesus was lifted up on the cross to redeem us from the curse.

Just as Moses lifted up the snake on the pole, so Jesus was lifted up on the cross. Jesus became the curse when he hung on the cross, so that we could be set free from the curse.

As Jesus hung on the cross he shouted out, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)

The Heavenly Father had to turn his face away from His beloved Son because all our sins and every vile curse of hell had been laid on Jesus.

God is holy and cannot mix with sin. He therefore had to abandon his Son. By allowing Jesus to become like the cursed snake on the cross, He could look to you and me. Jesus paid the full price on the cross so that we could go free.

After dying for our sins, Jesus went to hell on our behalf where he fought the greatest battle ever fought so that we could go free. He then rose from the grave, conquering death and paying the full price for our freedom.

Hebrews 12:2 tells us, “Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

Jesus was lifted up on the cross just like the snake on the pole. He took our sins on his shoulders and became cursed so that we could be set free from the curse.

4. The Red Cross

I want to encourage you to surrender your life and battles to Jesus.

When someone is sick, they follow the RED CROSS to go to the hospital. Today look to Jesus. On the cross, he paid the full price for your salvation. His love ran red!

By the way, have you noticed that most ambulances worldwide have the symbol of the “snake on the pole” as their emblem? The next time you see an ambulance, remember Jesus. He was lifted up on the cross to save you, to rescue you.

There is power in the blood of Jesus. This blood is so powerful that it can cleanse you. The blood of Jesus also offers protection.

My friend, if you have fallen from God or have found yourself getting negative and disillusioned with life, look to the cross. Look to Jesus.

Come to the cross and surrender your battle to Jesus, along with your burdens, heartaches, sins, sicknesses, and every curse. Surrender all. Lay it down at the foot of the cross.

Now, take a fresh look at this scripture again. In John 3:14-15, it tells us thatJust as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

This scripture goes on in John 3:16 and tells us, For God so loved the world (THAT’S YOU) that he gave his one and only Son (JESUS), that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And it then tells us in John 3:17, For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Jesus didn’t come to condemn you. He came to save you! Jesus bought you with a high price. You are valuable to God. Stay connected to Jesus. Look to Jesus. You can rest in Him.

Now see this…

5. Know Your Position in Christ.

Jesus is the head. We are his body. Where is the enemy?

Colossians 1:18 says, “Christ is the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.”

God is supreme. He has the highest authority. He is above all. He has ALL power and authority in heaven and earth. He is the HEAD of the Church and the church is his body.

Now, the Church is not a building. The Church refers to the followers of Jesus who have surrendered their lives to him as their Savior. They become the BODY of Christ.

Ephesians 1:18 says, “And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church.”

So, Jesus is the HEAD, and you and I are His BODY, and everything has been placed under his feet.

Ephesians 2:6 says, “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”

Where is the enemy?

In Genesis 3, it gives a prophetic word and shows that “The Seed of Woman”, referring to Jesus Christ, would soon “crush the enemy’s head and bruise his heel”.

Romans 16:20 says, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.”

So, if Jesus is the HEAD and we are His BODY, where is the enemy?

The enemy is under your feet!

No wonder Jesus told us in Luke 10:19, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”

Stay connected to Jesus. You can rest in Him.

Don’t live in fear. Hold onto God. Look up. Look to Jesus. Stand firm, knowing that you are part of God’s unshakable Kingdom. It is time to take up your position as part of the body of Christ.

6. Put on the Full Armor of God and Stand Firm.

You are in a battle, but you do not have to fight it in your strength.

Yes, we are in a real war, but remember that your battle is not against people or things. There is a spiritual battle going on.

You need to arm yourself. Put on the armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-18…

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

God has given us his protection so that we can stand firm in the middle of any attack.

Remember your battle is not against people, it is a spiritual battle.

Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand up and face your enemy, not in your own strength, but with God as your protection. All you need to do is stand your ground. Protected by the armor of God, you can stand and watch God fight the battle on your behalf.

Put on the full armor of God:

  • The helmet of salvation (Know who you are in Christ. Jesus has saved you for eternity)
  • The breastplate of righteousness (You have been made right by the blood of Jesus)
  • Belt of truth (Walk in truth, knowing that the truth will set you free)
  • Shoes fitted with the gospel of peace (Walk in peace because Jesus finished the work on the cross)

Pick up your:

  • Shield of faith (This stops the fiery darts of the enemy)
  • Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Stand on God’s Word. Speak it. Believe it. Live it.)

And:

  • Be strong
  • Stand firm
  • Pray (The Holy Spirit will help you)
  • Stay alert
  • Persevere

7. God is Your Protector…

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear …” (Psalm 46:1-2)

Wait on God. Do not fear. Hold on tight to Jesus. He is your ever-present help in times of trouble. Seek God and you will find him. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.

Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

Be patient. Keep calm. Be still.

With God, you can overcome any battle.

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (Romans 8:28)

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?” (Romans 8:35)

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39)

God can cause everything to work together for your good. If God is for you, you will be okay!

Nothing can separate you from God’s love. Don’t live in fear or dread. Let go of your worries. Hold on to Jesus. Keep your eyes on him for overwhelming victory is available through Jesus Christ.

8. Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT)

Strip off the weight that is slowing you down. Surrender the sin that so easily entangles. Run with endurance. Above all, keep your eyes on Jesus.

Let go of your fears and concerns. Strip off the burdens and weight that slows you down. Let go of the sin. And set your sights on Jesus.

He has “all power and authority.” (Matthew 28:18)

He is limitless. He is the creator.

He is the sustainer of life who holds everything together. (Colossians 1:17)

He is the alpha and the omega. The first and the last, the beginning and the end. (Revelation 22:13)

He is your Savior. (Luke 19:10)

Don’t allow the fears and uncertainties of life to draw your eyes off Jesus.

I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27)

If you are under attack, in trouble, or feel like your life is poisoned, then…

  1. Watch your words. Speak life.
  2. Don’t be negative and complain. In faith, look to Jesus.
  3. Look to Jesus as your deliverer. He came to redeem you and set you free from every curse.
  4. The Red Cross. Surrender your battle to Jesus, knowing that there is power in the blood he shed on the cross.
  5. Know your position in Christ. He is the head, you are the body and the enemy is crushed under your feet.
  6. Put on the full armor of God and stand firm.
  7. God is your protector. With God, you can overcome any battle.
  8. Look to Jesus. You can find victory over any attack. Keep your eyes on him.

He is your God. And nothing, absolutely nothing, is too difficult for him.
