Jesus Is Our Supernatural Provider

man in black and gray plaid dress shirt. Going through the motions.

Jesus is our supernatural provider!

I don’t know what you are going through at the moment or what you need, but I believe that God is able to make a way. He is Our Supernatural Provider.

God knows what you need. He knows everything about you. He knows you better than you know yourself. God knows when you are up, and when you are down. He knows you’re coming in and you’re going out.

God knows what is happening in your life. He knows your heartaches, your dreams, and your desires. And he knows your areas of lack.

God is able to make a way even when there seems to be no way.

I believe that God is going to move in your life. If you need God’s supernatural provision, this message is for you.

Jesus is our supernatural provider.

Let us take a look at how God provided in Bible times…

THE FIRST MIRACLE JESUS DID

In John 2:1-11 it records the first miracle that Jesus did. Jesus had been invited to a wedding, along with his disciples and his Mom was also there. During the celebration they ran out of wine. While this was not a critical situation it was embarrassing for the newlyweds.

Jesus’ Mother called her son over and asked him to help. There were six stone water jars. Jesus told them to fill these jars with water. By the way, each jar held around 100 liters (26.4 Gallons)!

Jesus basically turned the water into wine!”

In John 2:8 Jesus then told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

The master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine and immediately called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

The story ends by saying that this was the first miracle Jesus did, and that he did this miracle to “reveal his glory”.

What an incredible story. Jesus was just at a wedding. They ran out of wine. All Jesus did was provide for a need. It was not a life-or-death situation, but Jesus provided.

This was probably the least of all of Jesus miracles. I believe that through this miracle God showed that no need is too small or insignificant for him.

Jesus is our provider. You can approach him.

In John 15:7 Jesus said, “But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.”

If you are currently facing a need, cry out to Jesus. Ask Him to help you.

JESUS FED 5000 WITH A LITTLE BOY’S LUNCH

In John 6 it tells the story how a large crowd of 5000 had followed Jesus. They had seen the incredible signs and wonders he had performed which included seeing people healed, delivered, and set free. Furthermore, Jesus had given them such wisdom for living that they just wanted to be near him.

Jesus was concerned for the people. They were hungry and Jesus did not want to send them home starving. He said to Philip, one of his disciples, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” John 6:6 says Jesus “asked this question only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.”

“Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!Another of his disciples, Andrew, who must have walked through the crowd to see what food was available, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?

Jesus borrows this young boy’s lunch.

In John 6:20 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there).”

“Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.”

“So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.”

Jesus had a group of hungry people with him. So, what did Jesus do? He borrowed a little boy’s lunch and multiplied it. God can still do this today. He can take the little you have and multiply it.

cross silhouette during golden hour. God is still your provider. Jesus died on the cross for you.

GOD IS STILL YOUR PROVIDER

A few years ago, I heard a story of missionaries in the Transkei, South Africa. There were 60 people in the camp, and they were hungry. They only had one chicken. These missionaries decided to pray and ask God to multiply. All 60 ate until they were full.

God’s provision is not just for Bible times. It is for now. It is for you and for me.

God can make a way even where there seems to be no way. I really want to encourage you to draw near to God and to trust him and to look to him as your provider.

Don’t look at your own resources. This will leave you feeling devastated. Look to Jesus.

I know it is easy for me to tell you to trust Jesus as your provider. I know it is a completely different reality to trust him in the middle of a crisis. But I want to encourage you to hold on to God and to trust him for your provision.

You see, Jesus doesn’t look at what you have. He can take the little you have, and he can multiply it. He can stretch it. He can make it go further than it has ever gone before.

JESUS IS THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FORVER

Hebrews 13:8 says that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Jesus has not changed. What he did in Bible times he still can do today.

Jesus loves you. He wants to meet all our needs. He loves to help his children out.

CAST YOUR BURDENS ON JESUS.

1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Jesus is waiting for you to turn to him. Trust him. He made a way for me. He can make a way for you.

When Jesus fed the 5000, with a little boy’s lunch, there were 12 baskets left over. This clearly shows that when Jesus provides, he always provides in abundance.

I want to encourage you to put your hope in God.

JESUS WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS

In Matthew 17:24-27 it tells that when Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, they had to pay their temple tax. They did not have any money on them.

So, do you know what Jesus did? He asked Peter, one of his disciples, who was an experienced fisherman to go fish.

In v 27 Jesus told Peter, “Go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a coin in the fish’s mouth. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”

In all of Peter’s years as an experience fisherman, he had never caught a fish with a coin in its mouth. But he had never needed to until then.

Jesus supernaturally provided enough money to cover the full tax bill.

If Jesus did this in Bible times, He can do it today too!

I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but God wants a relationship with you. Listen to his voice. He wants to lead and guide you. He can make a way even when there seems to be no way.

I’m telling you God can take care of your needs.

LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP

In Luke 5:1 it tells us that “One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.”

Jesus basically used the empty boats as His pulpit, as he shared a life changing message with the crowd..

In v 4 it says that “When he had finished speaking, he (Jesus) said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

Simon the fisherman replied, “Master, we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”

Simon was a professional fisherman. They had caught nothing. The fish were not biting. But he did as Jesus said. They launched back out into the deep.

In Luke 5:6 it says, “And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.”

These fisherman had worked hard all night. They had caught nothing and therefore earned nothing for the day. Jesus told them to launch into the deep.

God provided a supernatural miracle. The fish were jumping into their nets. They had such a miraculous catch that they nearly sunk their boats.

One moment no fish and no income. The next moment, after following Jesus instruction, they were blessed with the biggest catch of their lives that ended up becoming a life changing event.

I pray that God will supernaturally provide for you too!

Luke 5:8-11 says, “When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.”

Even though Simon Peter was not a holy man, God blessed him. His life was forever changed. He left his fishing and followed Jesus.

THROW YOUR NET ON THE OTHER SIDE

Another time, after Jesus had paid the price on the cross for our sin and had risen from the grave, He appeared to His disciples, who had gone back to the previous jobs, while they waited to see what God wanted them to do.

In John 21:3 it tells us that “Simon Peter had gone fishing but they caught nothing all night.”

Jesus appeared on the scene and told him in v 6 “Throw out your net on the other side of the boat, and you’ll get some!”

Now I am not a fisherman, but surely if you are in the middle of a large lake it does not really make a difference if you throw your net out to the left, or right? But they obeyed.

v 6 tells us, “So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.

Maybe you have been working hard, but the “fish just aren’t biting”. Maybe you are running your own business and your income seems to have dried up. Maybe the bills are mounting, and your income has not come through.

I pray that God will give you fresh revelation of what to do. May God give you a “miraculous boat filling abundant catch” that will catapult you forward.

Don’t give up. Put your hope in God. He can supernaturally provide.

Keep working hard. Do your best. But rest in God. Wait on him. Obey what he calls you to do.

Psalms 37:25 says, “Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.”

God is able. Put your hope in him.

THE KEY TO GOD’S SUPERNATURAL PROVISION: ASK!

I know we are living in very tough times, but I really want to encourage you to look to Jesus. He is our provider.

God is generous.

James 1:5-8 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”

According to James, God is generous, and we are to ask God for help. But we need to be single-minded and come to Jesus in faith.

We can come with confidence to God.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Approach God with confidence. Ask in faith, knowing that if you ask anything according to God’s will, he will provide. Remember that God’s “yes”, is as good as his “no”, and is as good as his “wait”. He knows what is best and will come through in the right way and at the right time. Approach God expectantly!

silhouette of person standing beside cross during sunset. Come boldly to God's throne of grace, where Jesus can provide.

COME BOLDLY TO GOD’S THRONE OF GRACE

Hebrews 4:16 says, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

What must we do when we have a need? APPROACH GOD’S THRONE!

How do we come? BOLDLY!

Who can come? ANYONE!

What will happen when we come? WE WILL RECEIVE GOD’S MERCY AND GRACE WHEN WE NEED IT MOST!

What did Jesus have to say about asking God for help?

Jesus shared a story to illustrate that we can approach God and ask for his help.

In Luke 11:5-10 Jesus was teaching about prayer and he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

What is Jesus telling us? Keep calling on God for help. Be persistent. Keep on asking.

I remember hearing of great men of God who would pray and pray until something happened. They would keep praying, persistently calling on God until he moved. If someone was sick or in need, they would set up prayer meetings, and they would pray all night if necessary, until God brought the breakthrough.

How desperate are you for God to provide? Cry out to him! Keep asking. Could we have missed the “key” to God’ supernatural provision?

In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus told us, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Have you asked God for help?

Jesus went on and said, “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

The Father wants to provide for your needs. He knows what is good for you and he knows what you need.

God wants to be part of every area of your life. He wants you to bother him with your problems. He wants to do life with you.

There is power in the name of Jesus.

Jesus also told us a time would come when we would be able to go directly to the Father and ask anything using Jesus name, and that The Father would then answer.

In John 16:23-24 Jesus said, “you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”

Have you cried out to God to supply your needs? Have you persistently cried out to God? Could this be the key to God’s supernatural provision?

God can even move mountains.

In Mark 11:22-25 Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”

God can move mountains. Do not doubt! Put your faith and confidence in our great God. God can make a way. The only thing that can stop God from intervening is when we hold onto grudges and offence. So, forgive! Then come to God with a clear conscience, knowing that God can move your mountain. He can make a way. God is our supernatural provider. God is waiting for you to COME BOLDLY TO HIS THRONE OF GRACE. He is waiting for you to ASK him to provide. He is waiting on you to PERSISTENTLY APPROACH HIM.

We are going to pray for you, but I also need to tell you that God is our Jehova Jireh, our provider.

JEHOVA JIREH

Genesis 22:1-12 it tells the story of how God tested Abraham’s faith.

God had told Abraham, “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”

To give you context you need to remember that in the Old Covenant sacrifices were needed to atone for sin.

The Bible tells us that the next morning Abraham l, together with his son Isaac set off on their journey up Mount Moriah. Isaac had to carry the wood up the mountain in his way to be sacrificed. They eventually arrived at the place God told them to go.

In Genesis 22:7, “Isaac turned to Abraham and said, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “We have the fire and the wood,” the boy said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?

Basically, Isaac was asking. Dad where is the sacrifice?

In v 8 Abraham assures his son, don’t worry my son, “God will provide!”

Abraham must’ve been desperate. He looked at his son and said my son, God will provide a lamb. In faith and in hope, he believed God would provide.

Abraham laid his son on the alter, and as he was about to slay his beloved son, an Angel of God called out from heaven, STOP!

In Genesis 22:11-12 the angel of the Lord told Abraham, “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!… Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”

In v 13-14 it says, “Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The- LORD -Will-Provide.”

In v12 it concludes “that to this day, people still use that name as a proverb: On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

You may ask, why would God ask Abraham to sacrifice his own son?

This story is actually the gospel message. God himself would send his own son, the son that he loved, to be sacrificed on behalf of the world. Jesus had to carry a heavy wooden cross up the same mountain range, but he would go all the way to the highest peak, to Mount Calvary, to sacrifice himself as a payment for the sins of all of mankind.

God provided the sacrifice. God provided The Lamb.

Just as the ram was found caught in the bush of thorns, so Jesus had a crown of thorns put on his head and he was nailed to the wooden cross to provide the sacrifice so that we could be saved.

Abraham named the place Jehovah Jireh – “THE LORD WILL PROVIDE”.

God saw our desperate need, and he provided his beloved Son as a sacrifice for all mankind. God was showing his great love for you and I. He did not withhold his one and only son. God went all the way and gave up his Son on the cross for you and me.

Do you realize how much God loves you? He loved Jesus with all his heart, but he let his one and only son die so that we could live.

God did not need to let Jesus die on the cross, yet he died to rescue you and me.

God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, but he did not stop with his own Son. It was a heavy price. He offered his own precious and beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us from our sins.

God does not treat sin lightly. The only way for sinful man to be free was for God to allow the punishment to fall on his pure and spotless son.

Jesus is the Lamb of God. He was the ram that was allowed to be caught up in the thicket, as a payment for our sin. Do you see Jesus’ love? He was prepared to go all the way and provide a way out of sins so that we could go free.

John 1:29, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

JESUS PAID IT ALL

We were cut off from God because of sin. God knew that we were lost and hopeless. God is holy and just, and therefore had to punish sin. But God had a plan. Instead of punishing us, Jesus Christ came as our Saviour and took the punishment we deserved.

Life doesn’t end at the grave. There is a real heaven and hell. God knew our eternity was at risk, so he made a way.

On the cross Jesus paid the full price for our sin. He died for our sin. He rose again, defeating sin and death, and He is coming back to judge the world.

Are you right with God? Are you a child of God? Or is your eternity at risk? If it is, then take Gods generous gift of life.

Because God provided a way, we can be forgiven and know God intimately because of what Jesus did on the cross.

JESUS IS ALIVE. HE IS THE WAY-MAKER.

Not only did Jesus make a way for you to share eternity with God but after dying on the cross, Jesus rose from the grave defeating death, sin and paying the price for every vile curse of hell.

He is alive and he can deliver you from your oppression. He can set the captive free. He is the way-maker. He is the miracle worker.

He can take your little and multiply it. He can cause all things to work out for the good. He can make a way.

Trust in God for your breakthrough!

I want to encourage you to put your life in God’s hands. Surrender your life along with your burdens to God, and then come boldly to His Throne of Grace. Cry out to God for help. Come in faith. Ask God to make a way, and keep asking.

Jesus is our supernatural provider!
